Dear Abbie... How Do I Spot Bad Design?

There are millions—literally millions—of options when it comes to invitation designs for your big day. How will you ever decide?! Here a few things you need to make sure your invitations consider...

1. FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION

Form follows function simply means when it comes to your wedding invitations there is one primary purpose—of course to let your guests know the details about attending your wedding! It seems obvious right? WRONG! Some designs get so caught up in patterns, colors, and fonts that this information does not get communicated clearly. —Talk about a waste of time and $

2. PHOTOS SHOULDN'T FIGHT WITH TEXT

This is a very unique concept that is often not considered. Picture this, you've hired an amazing photographer to take your engagement pictures and you absolutely love how they've turned out. You cannot wait to send out your square save the date magnets with your favorite from the photoshoot on them. The problem is the design you've fallen in love with requires a lot more text space and a lot less of the busy backdrop. YIKES!

This is why many couples are choosing OKOTA who understands design and photography and the technical aspects required of both. I always try to stay aware of what the couple is wanting as far as design when taking their pictures. This way the designs are cohesive and text looks like it was made for the image! Pretty cool I think...

3. WHAT DOES YOUR STATIONERY SAY ABOUT YOU AND YOUR EVENT?

If your guests cannot explain the style or theme of the wedding along with what your personalities are upon looking at your stationery suite then the designer isn't really that great... (brutal but honest) It shouldn't require much thought to determine if the event is going to be black tie or informal, or if the couple has a wonderful sense of humor.

xoxo,

Abbie
